Color Lab · tablet app for hair salons

A wireless scale app for top salons and independent colorists

Weigh color on a wireless scale and Color Lab records the formula on the client's card to 0.1 g, works out the developer and tells you what the service cost.

An example mix. The scale enters the grams.

Trusted by nearly 100 salons in Poland since 2020

Formulas

Every formula saved, for everyone in the salon

Grams from the scale go onto the client's card with your notes. If someone is out sick or on vacation, a colleague opens the card and mixes exactly the same formula.

  • Recorded to 0.1 g, so you can measure even pigments.
  • Several mixes per visit, each with its own note.

Run out of color? Mix more of the same

Even if you're only 15 g short, Color Lab recalculates every product so the top-up matches the original mix exactly. You can also repeat a mix from a previous visit in a different amount.

Costs

Know what every color service costs you

Not just the color: Color Lab prices every product in the bowl at your price per gram, and you can add your working time and extra services such as a treatment. You see the total on the tablet and on the front desk computer, so you know whether your prices make a profit.

  • Usage, cost and leftover statistics for the salon and each stylist.

Leftover color

Next time, mix only what you need

After the appointment, put the bowl with the leftover color on the scale. At the next visit Color Lab scales the formula down to exactly what the client used.

Calendar add-on

Keep your booking system or use our calendar

You don't have to change your booking system. Color Lab can show appointments from selected booking systems, or you can use its own calendar with SMS reminders. It also works without a calendar at all.

  • With the SMS add-on, clients get a reminder the day before their appointment.

Hi! This is a reminder of your appointment at the salon tomorrow (Oct 23) at 2:30 PM. See you then!

Wi-Fi drops? Your color service carries on

After the first sync, the tablet app works without the internet. Client formulas and history are already on the tablet, and new mixes save as you work.

  • When the connection comes back, changes reach your other devices automatically.
Example. Syncing starts by itself once the internet is back.

How much color ends up in the trash?

15 g left in a bowl doesn't look like much, but over a month of color services it adds up fast. Try your own numbers.

In my view the system is brilliantly thought through. It takes care of both stylists and clients during the appointment.

Questions

What is Color Lab?

Color Lab is a tablet app with a wireless (Bluetooth) scale for hair salons and independent colorists. It saves color formulas to 0.1 g, works out the developer, the cost of every color service and the color left in the bowl. It also manages stock and a calendar with SMS reminders. It has been used in Poland since 2020, where nearly 100 salons work with it.

How much does Color Lab cost?

From $65 a month per location (Starter). Pro costs $85 and Inventory $129 a month. Each additional scale is $19 a month. The calendar with SMS reminders is an add-on at $10 or $15 per stylist a month. The contract runs for 12 months, and one-to-one online onboarding for every team member is included.

Can I cancel?

Yes. In the first 30 days, cancel with one email and you pay nothing more. Fees already paid aren't refunded, and nor is hardware, which you buy separately. After that the contract runs for 12 months, then month to month. Business contracts have no legal cooling-off period, so our 30 days is what applies.

What hardware do I need?

A tablet, a Bluetooth scale and a stand from the list of models that work with Color Lab. Other models aren't supported, so we confirm the list before you buy. A typical set costs $250–$400, one-off. You scan barcodes with the tablet camera.

Does it work with every color brand?

Yes. Color Lab already includes colors from many brands and recognizes them by barcode. If the barcode on a tube can't be read, you pick the color on screen. If a product is missing, you add it yourself (brand, line, shade) and every tablet in the salon sees it straight away.

Why weigh the leftover color?

So that next time you mix less. At the next visit Color Lab scales the formula down to what the client actually used. Less color goes in the trash, and the statistics show how much you throw away.

Can clients book online?

No. Color Lab has no online booking; the salon enters appointments. You can keep your booking system: Color Lab shows appointments from selected systems.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After the first sync the tablet app works without the internet: weighing, formulas, client records, the calendar and stock. You need the internet for the first setup, the browser version, the Excel report, sending orders and keeping devices in sync. Changes sync automatically when the connection returns.

Can I use several tablets and scales?

Yes. All devices in the salon see the same clients, formulas, appointments and stock; keeping them in sync needs the internet. Each additional scale costs $19 a month.

Who owns the data?

Your salon does. You can download or delete it at any time. Data is stored in the European Union.

Is the app in English?

Yes. The app is available in English and Polish.

How does support work?

You write to us in the app and attach a screenshot with the problem marked. You can also email matt@colorlabapp.com.
